Designed by Jia Ru Chen, the Into the Ink residence showcases a unique approach to interior design. Instead of lowering the ceiling to adapt to the original situation, the designer decided to use black-white lines with embedded lighting design that run through the beams of the common area. This innovative solution not only solves the overwhelming atmosphere caused by the lower beams above but also serves as a hint to guide the residents along the flow, improving the spatial aesthetics with indirect lighting.
One of the standout features of this design is its ability to create a sense of fluidity. The space is adorned with marble veins, ceiling lines, lighting, and dark wooden grains, all carefully chosen to enhance the overall aesthetic. The combination of black, grey, and white through various textures adds depth to the space, creating a visually captivating environment.
Functionality was a key consideration in the design process. The designer incorporated recessed hidden handles on the system cabinets to improve sleekness and reduce the sense of being messy and packed. The multi-layers and partial open-shelving, combined with black and wooden grains, create a storage solution that is both practical and visually appealing. The addition of grey mirrors above the cabinets extends the space with its reflective effect.
The flow of the design is carefully orchestrated to create a seamless experience for the residents. Upon entering from the entrance, the TV wall serves as the hub of the space. From there, the flow smoothly moves between different areas, allowing easy access to the shoe cabinets, living room, bedrooms, and dining room. This interconnected layout promotes interaction among family members and creates a sense of unity.
The Into the Ink residence is located in Hsinchu City, Taiwan, and was completed in October 2021. The design was based on extensive research into the needs of the users, with a focus on creating a space that allows young couples to look after their kids without barriers in between. The arrangement connects functional areas, extends sunlight, boosts ventilation, and fosters family togetherness.
This exceptional design has been recognized with the prestigious A' Design Award in 2022. The Iron A' Design Award is bestowed upon well-designed, practical, and innovative creations that meet professional and industrial requirements. Into the Ink's unique blend of style, functionality, and attention to detail truly sets it apart.
With its fluid and dynamic design, the Into the Ink residence by Jia Ru Chen showcases the power of thoughtful interior design. From the innovative use of black-white lines with embedded lighting to the carefully chosen materials and color palette, every aspect of this design contributes to its stylish exquisiteness. It is a testament to the power of creativity and innovation in creating a truly remarkable living space.
